November Wrap-Up

I started the month in New York City, and ended it with a fantastic Thanksgiving meal surrounded by great friends. November is always a great month, with it's long holiday, the change in the seasons, but the absence of the December pressure cooker.

These buildings are big!
The Empire State Building from Madison Square Park.
On the 1st of November, I was in New York City for the first time. I did the usual "tourist" things - visiting the Empire State Building and Times Square, but also took some time to visit with some friends that kindly invited me out to dinner with them. For sure, it's a trip I'll have to repeat; I was exhausted, because I had been to California only 48 hours before that on business. But, for my first trip, it was exceptional.

The most unique thing about New York is just the sheer size of it. The buildings are enormous, the people walk faster, and the city seems to exist independent any particular person. People have lived in this area since the 1600's; the city was there long before you and will be there long after. It's just the way it is; it's not personal. Each city has a personality, and the personality of New York seems to be indifference.

During November, I of course bought a car, a 2008 New Beetle. This was the first car that I bought and paid for myself; it was also my first brand-new car (certainly saved the time of having to get a used car inspected). So far I've put some 700 miles on it, but I'm having a blast with it. Here's hoping that yellow is only a coincidence with lemons!

Everyone is content!
Our feast.
Finally, we come to Thanksgiving, which I spent with the Fullerton family again this year. That seems to be the tradition being formed, which is a fantastic tradition. Our feast was fantastic as usual, with the turkey prepared by Debbie Fullerton, and everyone bringing something to contribute. The food was great, as was the conversation and the friendship. Definitely a great way to end the month.

For those still traveling, have a safe return trip home, and I'll see everyone in three short weeks for Christmas. It's almost upon us!
