The Wells Fargo Wagon Is A-Coming Down..Wait a minute...

Wow. It's been an exciting week for my money.

First, I had the fun of knowing that I was an asset, and was now pwned (Google it, spelling freaks) by Citibank.

Then, I come to find out this morning that Whoopsie! When they said Citibank, Wachovia meant to say "Wells Fargo." The two names sound alike, so I'm sure it was a coincidence.

Fifty bucks says that Citi will sue Wachovia to enforce the original agreement and they'll be locked into litigation that's expensive and uses...you guessed it...my money.

Oh, Bank of America, you never looked quite so sweet...

Parents Everywhere Outraged

Kellogg's and Legos have teamed up to offer Legos Fun Snacks. Fruit snacks. Shaped like...Legos. Seriously now?

Any good parent remembers telling their kids NOT to eat the Legos. And while I don't recall my mother saying that to me, I'm sure at one point she did. How are parents supposed to manage?

"Ok, Johnny, you can only eat the Legos that are soft..." What?

Sneaky: New $199 iPhone Costs $160 More Than $399 iPhone It Replaces

Here's a math problem for you...

What happens when you take a $399 device and subtract $199?

If you expected to save $200, and you're talking about the iPhone, you'd be wrong.

Let's use a nifty comparison chart:

 Original iPhoneiPhone 3G
Phone Price:$399$199
Cheapest Voice Plan$39/450 min$39/450 min
Data Plan:$20/mo$30/mo
Text Plan200 free$5 for 200
Price After 2 Years:$1,815$1,975

This means that after you pay for your iPhone and your service, your actual total cost is $160 higher at the end of the two year contract.

Sneaky.

Running Mates

Hillary Rodham Clinton told colleagues Tuesday she would be consider joining Barack Obama as his running mate, and advisers said she was withholding a formal departure from the race partly to use her remaining leverage to press for a spot on the ticket.
Are you f-ing kidding me? Is Hillary Clinton so delusional that she would try to hold a gun to Senator Obama's head and force him to make her Vice President? Superdelegates, jump to Obama now - lest Hillary Clinton be a heartbeat away from the office she's tried to steal from the voters this primary season.

News From The Swamp - What Were They Thinking? Edition

Sometimes you just gotta ask yourself: what on earth were they thinking?

The day's headlines:

Congress forgot to send the third title of the Farm Bill to President Bush for his signature or veto, both confirming that neither Congress or the President actually read the legislation they vote on or sign, and also embarassing the Democrats who quickly voted to override a veto that never took place. I can see in some office somewhere: "Hey Bob, you know that scratch paper we used the other day? Well..." What were they thinking? [Politico]

DCist reports that plenty of cabs won't have meters by June 1. With thousands of cabs, only four stations that can certify meters, and cabbies who seemed to think the courts would miraculously side with them, one can only ask, what were they thinking? [DCist]

Someone thought it a good idea to sign me up for a subscription of Men's Vogue. What were they thinking?

The Park Service announced that arsenic levels at Fort Reno park were, in fact, within acceptable levels, weeks after closing the park based on satellite images (as if arsenic could be found by satellite). What were they thinking? [DCist]

28% of Americans still approve of President Bush's leadership. What on EARTH are they thinking?

DC's Finest Back On The Streets

Honesty is very important to law enforcement. Police officers routinely testify in court, and their word often outweighs that of a defendant, especially in cases where the officer is the only one to see the offense. So you would think that it would be easy to fire a police officer who lied to their superiors.

Nope.

Criminal Masterminds?

The Washington Post is reporting that a criminal attempted to rob a police officer at gunpoint...while the officer was in uniform.

Cordell said the officer was still in uniform, and filling up his personal vehicle at the gas station, when the man approached and pulled a gun. The officer responded by drawing his weapon and firing several shots.

An interesting question is whether or not the officer was breaking DC law by carrying his service weapon off duty. Officers are supposedly subject to the same handgun ban as ordinary citizens, and the case heard by the Supreme Court was a security guard who wished to take his weapon home for personal protection.

Still, that makes for a stupid criminal.

When Free Speech Goes Too Far

Anyone that knows me knows that I favor almost unlimited free speech. I'm uneasy with restrictions on what you can say and when you can say it; I'm all for allowing protesters to protest even if I disagree with their causes; I know that the outrageous idea today might be the banner for tomorrow. But even I find the protest of military funerals to be a despicable and unpatriotic act, outside the realm of the 1st Amendment and it's intentions.

Why Some People Shouldn't Be Lawyers...

Ever heard of the Dozier Internet Law firm? Probably not...rumor has it they're pretty bad at their jobs. In fact, so much so that they don't even understand simple copyright laws. Like ones that make posting a Cease and Desist letter permissible under fair use, if not permissible under the First Amendment.

Dozier Internet Law sent a Cease & Desist letter to InfomercialScams.com, who had posted comments on a retailer known as DirectBuy. You'll probably recognize DirectBuy as those people who tell you that you can save thousands and thousands of dollars by buying furniture directly from the manufacturer, and they'll let you have access to their warehouse for $2,995 a year! Yeah, right.

At the end of the Cease & Desist letter, which itself is absolutely absurd, the law firm claims that "...this letter is copyrighted by our law firm, and you are not authorized to republish this in any manner. Use of this letter in a posting, in full or in part, will subject you to further legal causes of action."

Apparently Constitutional Law isn't taught at whatever law school this guy attended. Not only is a Cease & Desist letter NOT copywritten, the copyright is not registered with the Copyright and Trademark Office here in Washington, DC. Good luck with that one, buddy.

If you want a good laugh, feel free to read the letters and posts below:
