Fifteen interesting or little-known facts about me

My friend Brittany tagged me in a blog post, which if I follow the rules of her blog post mean that I am supposed to post 15 random and usually unknown things about me on my own blog. I usually don't repost things but in this case I'll make an exception (probably doesn't hurt that Brittany's reasoning for having me do this is because I am "...one of the smartest people..." she knows.

Ahh...fun on the metro!

I was in a Metro station tonight, waiting for a train, and the following story happened (I am not the subject of the story):

*Voice comes over the loudspeaker:*

"Attention customers...for your safety...please step back from the granite edge..."

*pause*

*everyone looks around*

"Sir, in the white t-shirt and with the backpack, please step back from the granite edge!"

At this point, a very embarassed individual wearing a white shirt steps back, gives the camera a thumbs-up, to the laughter of the station...

Ahh, I love riding metrorail sometimes...

So it's like puppy prostitution...?

From the Associated Press:

From the state that popularized purse puppies, drive-thru dog washes and gourmet dog food delivery comes the latest in canine convenience — a company that contracts out dogs by the day to urbanites without the time or space to care for a pet full-time.

...what???

UPDATED: President Bush, Republicans oppose making education cheaper

Early Friday, the Senate passed legislation that would make student loans cheeper, reduce subsidies to loan companies, and increase the Pell Grant from roughly $4,300 a year to $5,400 (maximum award). President Bush has threatened a veto of the legislation.

Why do I care? Because I carry $30,000 in student loans. My friends carry similar loans, and some of them have opted for lower-paying jobs (like school teachers). Some of my friends will continue on in their education and be subject to receiving new loans (since most grants disappear at the graduate level).

A nice bit of relief...

With the temperatures in the mid-80's for the past few days and looking to extend into the 80's for the next week or so, it is a "breath of fresh air" so-to-speak in comparison to the 96 F - 100 F that California is experiencing...
