A few people asked me last night how my new job was going so I thought I'd let you know.
The new job is going well. I started yesterday. I really had a good time. There's a lot to learn, and I think that's pretty normal, but the people I work with are bright, intelligent people and I really enjoyed my first day.
You can expect to see in the coming weeks some improvements to Almost Georgetown as a result of my job, because I'll be getting better at PHP and finding new, open source solutions that will let me create great new features. Stay tuned...

Anyone who really knows me knows that I used to develop roleplaying games for an international stage. I'm excited because I just finished writing new rules for a new game, and the rules are in review by a couple of old players who I trust. I'm excited about it because I think it's some of the best work that I've ever done - so much so that for those of you geeky enough to enjoy reading about political games I've posted the rules as a PDF for you (after the jump).
It's worth noting that these rules are very rough and do not consider a number of scenarios that I am still thinking about. However, they do encompass the general rule of the game, where players act as leaders of their nations.
And hey, if you read them and want to participate, feel free to let me know! I'm always game for players...

Today was my last day working for CACI, as next Monday I start a job at a software developer in the DC area. While I have enjoyed my time at CACI, I only wish it had been at times less difficult to navigate. The new position will not be on site, so I will not be working in a government facility, something I am to some degree thankful for. CACI was a great company to start with, and even though it's time to move on I won't soon forget the lessons learned there.

Few people have ever heard of Judge Jeffery S. White. But right now, Judge White is the biggest threat to the United States Constitution, specifically the First Amendment, since the Alien and Sedition Acts in the 1790’s and the PATRIOT Act in early 2002. See, Judge White decided to ignore the First Amendment and order a website shut down because of content posted to that website by a user. It’s not a surprise that Judge White was appointed by the Bush administration, and even less of a surprise that he shares their hatred for the Constitution, but few have been so blatant about ignoring the amendment as Judge White.

Over the weekend I visited home to celebrate my brother's 21st birthday. My mother embargoed the story because it needed to be a surprise, but now that it's over I'm free to write about it.

Claire and I have broken up. The breakup was largely mutual, though she was the one who did the talking. I'm not bitter about the whole thing, but I am sad. Relationships are complicated, and I know that there's a lot of things that we both have to work out and deal with, both separately and corporately. Still, it being right doesn't make it doesn't make it any easier, or any more fun.

By now, the media has made a complete mess out of the Super Tuesday results, with conflicting information and way too much coverage. Our collective primary and caucus system is complex, to be sure. Here is my analysis of the race for the White House...

After several days with a flu bug, I'm back up and running. Expect to see some election-related writing and some other stuff coming in the next few days!

I've had a mild flu for the last couple of days, and one of the side effects is a terrible headache. I was talking to my friend Thomas, and I asked him if his accounting wisdom provided any possible methods for releving headaches. His response?
Thomas: Sure! Now, you have some options: 1. Expense the headache (ride it out and get it over with) 2. Captialize the headache as an asset (put the headache on hold and amortize it over time) 3. Hire Arthur Andersen (Enron's CPA Firm) and ask them to make it look like you've never had a headache (this would involve lying to yourself)
Well said, Thomas. If accountants ever go out of style, comedy might suit you!
