Time For The 2008 Banished Words List

It is, as they say, what it is - the Lake Superior State University 2008 List of Banished Words is officially out, and this year it's a perfect storm of wordsmithed concepts authored by the Lake Superior Banished Words committee.

The "Gospel of Prosperity"?

I generally avoid topics of religion, particularly due to the variety of people who read my blog. But one particular topic that I really can't avoid has been in the news recently - a discussion about a Congressional inquiry into the "Gospel of Prosperity."

Egypt to Copyright Pyramids

Egypt is planning to pass legislation that will permit the copyright of the ancient pyramids. Egypt claims that the copyright will raise cash for the monuments' upkeep, as well as to "protect Egyptian monuments."

Day 2: A Day At Home

Yesterday was spent getting ready for today's party, and Christmas shopping. I got some great gifts for my brother, grandfather, and mother. I think they'll really like them. We also made lasagna, and went grocery shopping. Today is the party, and tomorrow we head to Fremont for Christmas. Can't wait!

Day 1: A Trip To San Francisco

I used my first full day in California to take a trip to San Francisco to visit Ali, and then headed back to Yuba City with Thomas. Ali and I spent most of the day in Emeryville and then the afternoon in San Francisco, where we tried (unsuccessfully due to the line) to ice skate, and then wandered around the Embarcadero.

Since being back I've learned a few things that I wanted to share with everyone... Continue Reading...

Sad Day For The 1st Amendment

Today, Apple and ThinkSecret (www.thinksecret.com) agreed that Apple would drop its lawsuit against the news site in exchange for the news site's closure. As the First Amendment typically protects journalists from being forced to reveal their sources (which Apple was trying to force ThinkSecret to do) and Apple had already lost several motions on the matter, it looked as though ThinkSecret might win. But the owner of ThinkSecret, low on funds and wanting to move on with life, opted to cave to Apple rather than fight on.

And so, it's proven: if you have money, you win, even if you're wrong.

The Results Are In...

Along with B.A., I can now add MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) to the end of my name and to my resume. With a score of 747 (700 being required to pass) I am now a Microsoft Certified Professional. Finally - PROOF that I know what I know!

First MCSE Exam Tomorrow

Tomorrow I take the first of what I presume will be many certification exams to "prove" that I know what I know. I take 70-270 (Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional) tomorrow during lunch time. Wish me luck!

Dodged A Bullet

If you've really paid any attention to the news over the last week, reports of a major winter storm affecting the Northeast have been dominant for U.S. news. However, where I am in Washington, we seem to have dodged the bullet of the storm for now.

Ugh...

Well it's flu season and I have it...I think I caught it from work or something. Small fever, runny nose, headache, oh the fun of December! I'd ask my mom for some chicken noodle soup but somehow after spending five days in a box it just wouldn't be quite the same...

But I guess the good thing about having it now is that I'll be healthy for Christmas! Home in 10 days!

Postmarked Washington, DC? Try Suburban Maryland.

In 2001, at the height of the anthrax attacks that happened right after the September 11th attacks, two postal workers in DC died as a result of handling anthrax-laced mail. And thus began the demise of the Washington, DC postmark.

It's *!&#$ Cold!!!

You know those California winters, where it might get down to 29° and it's that way for a few days? Well, even though it's 36° here, it's snowing outside! Small flurries have been blowing up all morning. In short, it's *!&#$ cold! Not quite as cold as that picture, but still pretty cold!

Welcome to Washington I guess...
